The Queen, Lockdown and Family Photography

June the 13th marks the Queens official birthday, the celebrations usually accompanied by thousands gathering to watch the the trooping of the colour but not this year.

The pandemic and the resulting social distancing has so far stopped any of that from being able to happen. Even the Queen, who has been isolating at Windsor Castle, will not experience all the celebrations she normally enjoys for her official birthday. Her real birthday on the 21st April was spent in lockdown with her husband Prince Philip. The Queen herself asked that no special measures were taken during the pandemic, so there were no gun salutes at midday and obviously no family to celebrate it with.

So many families have been unable to get together for birthdays and other events since lockdown at the end of March.
Instead we've been isolating in our own homes, enjoying the time spent with our immediate family but also wishing we could visit our friends and relatives.

No doubt after the restrictions are lifted we will all make up for the time spent not seeing the people who mean so much to us.
One thing I can't wait to do with my family once we are able is to get dressed up and go out for a slap up meal. I'll certainly be taking my camera too as I want to record those moments, to remember them.

One way to mark the occasion might be to have a family portrait taken

I absolutely love this portrait taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz for the Queen's 90th birthday four years ago. I bet just having the children there in the same room made some special memories for her.

I certainly have fond memories of these sessions

and these, both held at Formby beach.

Family photos are important. Even more so now we can start to get together again.
Maybe in July we will be able to have bigger groups but for now it's six people outdoors, or five and a photographer!

From the 15th June we are able to reopen as long as we follow the guidelines although the number of people in the studio area will be limited.

For anyone wishing to book a family session I have a treat!
