Chinese 100 day Baby Celebration!

Amelia is 100 days old!

In December I was asked to photograph Amelia's 100 days celebration.

This is an old Chinese tradition, to introduce, celebrate and welcome a newborn to friends and family.  It was customarily celebrated at one month but is becoming more popular to celebrate at 100 days.  Postponing the party until this time means that the baby is older and more settled and the mother has had more time to recover.

The colour red is significant in the celebrations as it is a lucky colour in Chinese culture and signifies good luck, fortune and happiness. It is also traditional to give the baby gold jewellery as a gift to signify happiness and wealth.

Amelia's celebrations consisted of two parts. The first was a multi-course banquet held at Tai Pan in Liverpool. The tables were set to receive Amelia's guests and with a seating plan to guide them, everybody enjoyed the favours and the various courses.

After the banquet it was time to enjoy further celebrations at a cake and drinks reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Princes Dock in Liverpool.

The staff at the hotel had thoughtfully arranged the glasses to toast and welcome Amelia's guests, and the magnificent cake; which was made at Bon Bon Bakery, was the lightest and most delicious cake I have ever tasted!
